I used to be so ashamed….

Despite being a personal trainer for almost 30 years and being a Christian woman who loves the Lord, I still struggle with many of the same issues that many of my clients struggle with.  Yes, I sometimes ‘mess up’ and give in to temptation but I’m learning as I age that it does not weaken my testimony.

In the past, I used to be ashamed to share that I gained a few pounds or that I had  a mini-binge because I  thought that people would judge me and hit ‘unsubscribe’ from my mailing list. Now I understand that God has called me to help some women, not every woman and the ones who He has called me to minister to will hear my heart and not judge my humanness.

Over the last year of working with the ladies in the Haven program, I’m learning that transparency is one of the key’s to breakthrough. I’m learning that one of the enemy’s schemes is to isolate you, silence you, and make you feel like you’re the only one that is struggling (1 Peter 5:8) when in reality, your story is the exact thing that’s going to bless and free another woman from her downward spiral.

Wherever you are on your journey, don’t be ashamed to share your challenges, don’t be ashamed to reach out and ask for prayer, and most importantly, don’t be afraid to go to God. He is not mad at you, He will never judge you and He will never say, “I can’t believe you messed up again.”

I will keep it real and share my struggles. I refuse to hide and I refuse to hang my head in shame because I know that no matter what, God has promised that he will see me through. He never said perfectly or without set-backs and there are many of them.

So be encouraged my sisters, no matter how many times you mess up, God will be there to help you keep on going.

These scriptures often encourage me when I ‘mess-up’:

“For a righteous man falls seven times, and rises again, But the wicked stumble in time of calamity” Proverbs 24:16

“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.” Phil 3:12
