Story-tellers have an amazing gift of communicating. They are highly expressive and emotional.  They can be the life of the party and can share stories in vivid detail and clarity but if this personality has been hindered in any way, the story-teller can turn into a drama-queen.

Misapplication of Gift: Drama Queen (King)

  • difficult to stay focused
  • highly emotional
  • extreme highs and lows
  • tend to blow things out of proportion
  • can be manipulative
  • often find themselves way over their heads
  • can be volatile in nature
  • can excessively negative or unrealistic
  • overly dramatic
  • susceptible to dramatic outbursts
  • tends to view things as being one extreme or the other
  • need for attention
  • tend to monopolize conversations / people’s time

Root Causes:

  • low self-worth
  • feeling invisible

 

Limiting Beliefs:

  • I need to get people to notice me
  • I need to express myself to be heard
  • ‘woe is me’

 

Mindsets:

  •  it’s just a matter of time before something (bad) happens
  • life is unpredictable
  • bad things always happen to me
  • if things are going to good, something bad must be about to happen

 

Indirect Effect on Health/Feelings of Discontent:

  • jump from task to task and never take action
  • would rather talk about health than actually doing anything about it
  • lots of excuses and rationalization for why they are not taking action
  • often feel stuck

Direct Effect on Health:

  • prone to excessive highs and lows
  • prone to depression
  • tends to under-estimate caloric intake and over-estimate caloric expenditure

Effect on Relationship with God

Drama queens tend to exaggerate their thoughts and feelings  in all areas of their lives and their relationship with God is no exception.  They will go to God with a highly exaggerated view of their situation and may expect God to perform miracles or  harshly punish them. Their relationship with God is based on emotions and can be tumultuous.

• stop making a big deal out of everything- take a breath and put it in (a Godly) perspective

• practice being assertive without being too aggressive, passive or manipulative- learn to ask for what you want

• stop seeing yourself as a victim- learn to take responsibility

• stop rehearsing your story- learn to live in the present
