Success Spotlight ~ Cheryl S.

How long have you been a member and what keeps you coming back?

I started the 21-Day Challenge on December 28, 2017. Reading the overview, I could see it was not a fad diet or a quick weight loss program. That was important as I knew those types of programs didn’t work. I was so discouraged with losing and gaining the same pounds over and over. But I knew I couldn’t lose the weight and maintain it on my own. With the 21-Day Challenge being a Christian-based weight loss program, I felt encouraged to enroll. The videos, lessons, scripture references, and learning about Weight Loss, God’s Way, is what kept me moving forward.

What advice/tips/suggestions could you offer to your fellow sisters on this journey?

I would encourage others to participate in the program with a positive attitude, acknowledging that you can’t do it on your own, and be willing to turn your weight issues over to God. Take advantage of all the program has to offer and be willing to renew your mind and let go of the negative self-talk. Being able to identify with the characters in the program was also encouraging. Tracking my food and exercise on ‘MyFitnessPal’ and seeing progress gave me the motivation to keep going. The sharing with others on this same journey is very encouraging.

What was your highest weight? Current weight?  And when are you projected to achieve your goal?

When I joined the 21-Day Challenge I weighed 197.5. My current weight is 165.5. My goal is to reach 160 by June 1.

Aside from your physical weight, what other changes/benefits have you received from taking better care of yourself?

After all the holiday overeating, my fibromyalgia flared up and I was in a lot of pain. I knew this was the result of overindulgence in carbs, sugar, and processed foods. My diet and weight had become a serious health issue. Just a few days into the 21-Day Challenge I began to feel better with many of the fibromyalgia symptoms gone. This was a great encouragement to me.  With continued weight release, I’m experiencing more energy and a greater desire to reach my goal.  The lessons help me realize I need to make it a priority to take care of myself.

How many years have you struggled with your weight?

I’ve struggled with my weight all my life. In my teen years, I started trying to lose weight through various diets, having some success but always gaining it back. Three times I lost 50+ pounds, but when a stressful situation came along, food became my comforter and the weight came back. This became a pattern for my life, with my highest weight being 232 pounds. Even at my right weight, I never felt I could maintain it. I had programmed myself to think I would always be fat.

Do you still feel that you will revert back to your old habits and mindsets?

I know that reaching my goal weight is not the end of my transformation. The only way not to revert back to my old habits and mindsets is to remain committed to what I learned through this program, and most importantly, let God be in control. My plan is to continue with Weight Loss God’s Way and stay connected with sisters on the same journey. My prayer will be,

“Lord keep me humble and grateful as I give all the glory to You for my weight release, transformation, and renewal of my mind.
All things are possible through You.”

What is your theme scripture that ministers to you on this journey?

Since I selected TRANSFORMATION as my word for the year, I felt Romans 12:2 would be a perfect match to it.

“Be not conformed to the world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

Cheryl, thank you for sharing your story with us. I too have found my fibromyalgia flares when I consume large amounts of process foods, carbs and sugars. It’s a blessing to be in “community” with others experiencing similar challenges, who are willing to be transparent with one another, pray for each other and rejoice together.
