Scripture Reflection

” For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

We’re half-way through our session on false identities. Reflect on the Word of God and it’s power to break any wrong beliefs, fears and false identities that have latched on to your life.

Part 1- My Part- ‘Model It’

I may have shared the story with some of you about my visit to a Christian retreat to get some guidance for my son. In tears and desperation, I asked the Pastor, ‘How do I develop confidence in my son?’ who was struggling with his self-esteem at the time. As I prepared for him to give me a list of books to read and techniques to learn, the pastor gave me two simple words, “Model it.”. Huh, you mean that’s all? How is that going to help him I thought. But as time passed and I realized that we learn more from what is ‘caught’ and not ‘taught’. I had learned a valuable lesson about leading by example. So as we enter the last month of Haven, I’m renewing my commitment to 1. be more transparent with you as I break my boundaries so I can continue to work through my strongholds; 2. allow the Holy Spirit to lead me each and every day but inviting Him into my life more and 3. eat within my boundaries or readjust when I don’t. Please forgive me for not always walking in integrity.

Secondly, I feel that I’ve not fully prepared you for the level of resistance that you would experience. Reverting back to your old ways of being or even worse is part of the process- but I;ve already told you that, so that’s not news.  What I don’t feel like I’ve equipped you with, are enough tools to help  you ‘crawl out of the hole’ whenever you fall back in. (please read this post after you read this-not right now) We are now getting to this part in the program where you will receive those tools many of you may have needed it a month ago as we started digging deep. I will work with my team to see how we can make revisions to the program in the future so that you have some tools to work with prior to the ‘excavating process’. Please rest assured however that it’s not too late and  this situation you may find yourself in is temporary and will pass. It’s a sign that you’ve gone deep and experienced the pain (what we called resistance). However, it’s also a sign that the pain was no match for your old familiar habits and pacifier, so for now, your habits are winning but as of today, we are putting them on notice.

I declare that your life has changed even though it may not feel like it. Be patient as you wait for the manifestation of what the Holy Spirit has done in your life.

Part 2- Your Part – ‘Fight for it’

I pray that you’re painfully aware by now that this is not just about losing some weight. The devil is after your life; your purpose and your destiny and some of you are handing it to him on a silver platter. For all of us, his method of choice to rob us of our destiny by robbing us of our health. For others it might be through over-spending, for some drugs, for some gambling, for some sex. Your purpose is 100% wrapped up in your victory over your health and that’s why the enemy does not want you to win.

It’s time for us to stop being so passive with our life and fight like God commanded us to do. Please read these verses. 2 Cor. 10:4,5 Ephesians 6:13.

You signed up for this program to receive your breakthrough, don’t leave without it. Don’t throw in the towel because it’s hard or you’re not where you thought you would be after two months.

Victory is yours if you’re ready to fight for it. See the gravity of this moment in time and if you truly feel it then you will not allow another day to go by living the same way as you have, day in and day out. You know you want more and you know God wants more of you so it’s time to act like it.

It’s time for us to put away the tears, the whining that ‘it’s too hard’ and wallowing in self-pity. There was a season for that and it served it’s purpose and now that season is over. Now it’s time to fight for your life!

Choose 1 thing and commit to it 100%, effective immediately. Get radical about it. You have every right to get mad because the enemy is running roughshod in your mind and your letting him. You are no match for him but God is. So every time you eat outside your boundaries, get mad about it- hear me, don’t feel guilty— that’s only more of the devil talking to you. But get a holy anger and confess the name of Jesus. Call upon God all the time to help you whenever you stumble. Stop kidding yourself by saying, “I’ll do better next time” or “I don’t want to get obsessed.” Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. Why do you have to be afraid of getting obsessive? If you trust God, there are no justifications, rationalizations or fear about getting too obsessed or beating up on yourself. That’s your flesh talking and not the Spirit of God that lives in you. Trust that God will empower you in your time of need. “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” 1 Cor. 10:13.

Part 2- God’s Part- ‘Believe and Receive it!’

I’ve been afraid to offend anyone by telling you that your victory is  100% wrapped up in you level of faith. So let me just talk to myself. I understand that my victory over my heath and all other areas of my life is 100% wrapped up in my level of faith. My flesh is standing in the way of my victory.

Yes,  I trust God, yes, I believe God but do I trust Him enough to sacrifice my son’s life like Abraham; to walk into raging seas and not drown like the Israelites; to walk into a lion’s den like Daniel, to look like a fool and march around a wall for 7 days like Joshua’s army?

Do I love him enough to spend more time with Him than I spend with social media, working out or thinking about food or any of the other things that consume my time?

Do I trust Him enough to go to Him every time I want to eat outside of my boundaries (or spend money outside my boundaries, gossip, over schedule my time, adopt a lazy attitude etc, etc.; to not eat when every thing inside of me is crying out for the comfort and security of food or when my flesh would rather stay on the couch instead of exercise?

Thankfully, regardless how short we may fall, our loving daddy always just patiently waits for us to run into Him arms. Like the prodigal son, no matter how many times we mess us, He’s there and all we have to do is acknowledge Him and ask Him to be Lord over our lives.

God has made promises to us and we have every right to stand on His promises. He is obliged by His word to fulfill every promise that He has made to us. Promises of peace, victory, joy, abundance and rest. The key to access His promises are found in His word. It is the key to our victory. The bible says, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

Read it again, ‘diving soul and spirit’. Only God’s word can break the hold that our flesh (soul) has on our spirit. As you’ve been learning in the ‘Body,Soul and Spirit’ sections each week. They’re all connected, yet as long as the enemy has a hold on our soul, we will remain in bondage. But God’s word as it says here is the only thing that can pierce that.

Now read the last part, “and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Only God’s Word can correct our thoughts, our ill intentions, our uncanny knack for sabotaging ourselves and our self-destructive thoughts, habits and speech.

By His own immutable laws, He will fulfil every promise He made to us, “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.”  2 Cor 1:20

“The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9

So the rest is up to us, my beloved sisters. Let’s recommit today to stand on His promises and fight the good fight.

Amen? Will to commit to fighting 100%? No excuses, no blaming, no quitting, no hiding out? Are you full in?

If so, please share just one thing you are going to do effectively today ,in the strength of the Lord. If you fail to do it at ANY time, please share with the group so that we can pray for you and strengthen you on your journey.
