Welcome to the Stay Steadfast, God’s Way devotional and challenge! Remember the day you got your driver’s license—how thrilled were you!? All the time and effort; and all of your second-guessing, near misses, and failed attempts took you to that faithful day when you got to show off your driver photo to everyone you know.

This devotion is about all of the delays, near misses, and failed attempts. It’s about how to maneuver through all of the yo-yoing, backsliding, and discouragement that accompanies ‘normal’ healthy weight releasing. It’s designed to offer you encouragement, tools, and support to help you make it through the resistance that accompanies weight releasing—the messy middle.

Messy middles are the part of the journey where the novelty of the adrenaline rush that often accompanies the newness of a task or project wears off; where the excitement of the commitment we made at the start comes face to face with the reality of the work involved. It’s where the rubber meets the road and you’ve got to make a decision whether to advance toward God’s promises or retreat back into the comfort of complacency and convenience.

Vacations were one of my messy middles. For you, it might be other fun, celebratory occasions like birthdays or holidays, weekends, or even weeknights. It might be difficult times such as a death or illness in the family; maybe you’re struggling with an injury; or perhaps one day you just woke up and did not have the energy to keep on going and no matter what you do, you just can’t seem to get back on track. It’s for those of you who have not yet crossed the finish line, and if you’re completely honest, some days you’re not sure if you will.

When Jesus said that He is the first and the last, that also means everything in between. Among the Jewish rabbis, it was common to use the first and the last letters of the Hebrew alphabet to denote the whole of anything. We can trust Him not only to get started and to finish but will all the messy stuff in the middle too.

In this 21-day devotional and challenge, you’re going to learn biblical and practical tools and strategies to help you move past your messy middle to accomplish your health goals trusting the Lord as your strength.
