The #1 Habit you Must Change to Lose Weight

What do you think the number 1 habit is you must change in order to lose weight permanently? Exercise daily? Don’t eat after 8:00 pm? Minimize sugar intake? Keep a food journal?

Those are all good habits and I recommend them all to my clients but without changing your speech, you will continually find yourself right back at the same undesirable weight despite all of your exercise and hard work.

If you’re constantly saying words like ‘its hard‘, ‘I know’ but, ‘I want to’, ‘I should’, ‘I need to do’ or ‘I don’t know’ they you will never reach your weight loss (or any other) goals. These words all speak of something in the future that probably will never happen and they only keep you frustrated and procrastinating.

Your words precede action and these words indicate inaction and failure.

Your words give the world a preview of what your true intentions or beliefs are about your ability to succeed.

Your words are so engrained that we don’t even think about it. Our words come out of our mouths on automatic pilot and are subconsciously sabotaging our health and our lives.

The power of words is even stressed in the bible:

#The first chapter of John opens, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God, . . ” In Hebrew scripture, the Word was an agent of creation. Words have life and have the power to create.

#Words are so powerful that Psalm 33:6 states that, “the Lord merely spoke, and the heavens were created.” Is it possible that God has also given us this same power?

#Scripture also says that we have also been given the power to speak to our situations and circumstances. …you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ (Matt. 17:20) and it would move. How different would your life be if you began to speak powerfully to your situation in a proactive way that would cause them to move.

#Proverbs 18:21 also teaches us that death and life are in the power of the tongue.

I encourage you to take some more time and learn more about what the bible says about your words.

How do you even begin to change your words?

1. Until you understand why you have a negative habit of using words that don’t serve you then you will continue to do it. Take some time in prayer and ask the Holy Spirit to show you, guide you and direct your speech.

2. Make a decision- don’t say “I’ll work on it” or “I’ll try”. These words will only reinforce your failure. Make a definitive choice to draw a line in the sand and say from this day on, “I commit to changing my words.”

3. Receive insight from people in your life who love you and have your best interest at heart. As them to lovingly point out when you are using negative words.

4. Replace your negative words with words that are empowering, affirming and decisive.
“I will”, “I choose to,” and “I am committed to”.

5. Speak the word of God.The bible encourages us to confess the Word of God. The word is our weapon and sword to fight against negative attacks that come against us. Use it wisely and effectively.

6. Make verbal declarations about your health. I often share my personal declarations with my clients. Here are mine. I encourage you to create your own:

*I am in excellent health
*I am in action every day to promote my health and the health of others
*I create my health through my daily positive habits
*I believe my health is important and I strive to be in the best health
*I attract healthy people, healthy attitudes, healthy food, healthy activities and healthy habits into my life
*My ability to be in better health increases day by day
*I make time in my schedule everyday for physical activity;
*I receive God’s gift of excellent health. It allows me to serve in His Kingdom, to help more people, to enjoy a better quality of life and to be free to worship.
* I weigh what God wants me to weigh and I eat according to what God wants me to eat
*I get plenty of rest each night
*I have boundless energy

To your success.
