Top 10 Christian Weight Loss Books

As our book, Weight Loss, God’s Way continues to increase in popularity and is now in its fifth edition, I recognize that there are many other books out there that can also help Christians who struggle with their weight.

Today, I’m highlighting some of the books that I’ve read, as well as others, that have come highly recommended. I’m a big believer that there is no ONE book, program, or system that can meet all of your needs—there’s always something you can learn. Books are a great place to start your health and weight loss journey, but eventually, you will need other tools that include accountability and ongoing monitoring.

Though the Bible doesn’t specifically talk about weight loss, there are numerous passages that talk about food, dietary practices, gluttony, discipline, self-control, eating clean food, cooking food, and specific foods.

Christian authors have taken these Biblical passages and created meal plans, diets, and weight loss programs to help people lose weight. If you’re looking for a weight loss program based on biblical principles, please check out these Christian weight loss books. Each of these Christian authors has struggled with weight issues and wanted to share what has worked for them, hoping to help others achieve victory over food and weight the way they have.

Healthy by Design: Weight Loss, God's Way - Christian Weight Loss Plan and Bible Study

Weight Loss, God's Way is not a how-to book. Rather, it is a 21-day Bible study that teaches you spiritual truths regarding your weight loss journey. Rather, it is meant to be a companion to whatever lifestyle plan you choose. Terkeurst helps you realize that God made us to crave. However, we have replaced our craving for Him with physical pleasures, such as eating. Made to Crave will help you want to make healthier lifestyle choices and develop a closer relationship with God. Additionally, you'll learn how to make peace with the number on the scale and your body.


A Course in Weight Loss: 21 Spiritual Lessons for Surrendering Your Weight Forever

Marianne Williamson, the author of A Course in Weight Loss, asserts that if you shed pounds from your body but do not change your thinking, you will retain the subconscious desire to regain that weight. The premise of this book is that you have forgotten your divine perfection and that this has confused your body and mind. The 21 spiritual lessons in this book help your mind regain its spiritual intelligence, which will help your body shed weight and keep it off. You'll also learn how to change your relationship with your body from one of fear to one of love.


Hunger Within: A Biblical Approach to Weight Management

According to Arthur W. Halliday, MD and Judy Wardell Halliday, RN, authors of Hunger Within, we reach for food to try to satisfy the hunger of our souls. We all crave acceptance, intimacy, and security, and when we do not receive them, we reach for food instead. In their book, the Hallidays encourage you to allow God to satisfy the hunger of your soul.


The Eden Diet

Unlike other diet plans, the Eden diet doesn't require you to cut any type of food out of your life. Instead, the book encourages eating everything, including sweets, in moderation. You'll learn how to identify physical and emotional hunger, how to cope with emotional hunger, and how to fight temptation in this book. The author, Dr. Rita Hancock, studied nutrition and psychology extensively and shares her own weight loss struggles with you. Additionally, she includes scriptures from the Bible regarding the topic of weight loss to help you on your journey. Dr. Handcock also teaches you how to utilize prayer to garner willpower from God to keep the weight off once you lose it.


Bod4God: Twelve Weeks to Lasting Weight Loss

Pastor Steve Reynolds was always overweight. In the first grade, he weighed over 100 pounds. After playing football in high school and college, he promised himself that he would never run laps or exercise again. He kept that promise to himself, and he weighed 340 pounds at his heaviest for several years. After losing over 100 pounds and helping countless others shed weight, he wrote Bod4God to help even more people shed weight and keep it off.

I mean no disrespect, but please note that Marriane Williamson is a New Age Occult practitioner and not by any means Christian. She has extremely demonic teachings that have Christian language but on closer inspection is very anti-Christ. I wouldn’t want any new Christians or less discerning believers to accidentally get sucked into darkness by reading her materials even on weight loss, as it is very demonic. Thanks for looking into this, my sister in Christ! All the other books you list are great though! smile
