Moving from fear to freedom

Scripture Reflection:

“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.” Gal 1:10

We’re in the most powerful part of the Haven program, core fears.

Our core fears are at the source of our all internal turmoil.  All of our problems with our health (as well as other areas of our lives) are rooted in our core fears. Like records playing over and over in our heads, they are ingrained within our subconscious mind and taint our beliefs about ourself, the world and God.

As the Holy Spirit would have it, as I was sharing with the group about core fears, one of my own fear buttons was triggered; it was my fear of judgement. I felt my heart racing, my mouth got dry and my palms started to sweat. This is how many of us respond when our ‘buttons are pushed’. This uncomfortable feeling then leads many of us to the fridge to stuff our feelings with food.

My first response, ask for prayer! But before you commend me for my noble response, the Holy Spirit quickly and lovingly called me on my actions. He showed me that my call for prayer was really a masked cry for validation and approval. I really needed them to tell me that I was okay.

After I realized what I was doing, I then took the correct response which was to take my fear (judgement) and turn it over to God and ask Him to give me the validation and approval that I often seek from man. I noticed how often I go to people for validation when I feel fear, when God is the one that I should always be running to.

There is no one on this planet who can ever give you enough validation; not your husband or your friends. No matter how much you shop for new clothes or no matter how much food you eat, validation can only come from the one who created us.

This week in Haven we learned a powerful tool to help you turn your core fears over to God. This my friend is the only way to achieve freedom from emotional eating and break the bondage of overeating.

We’ve been working on something that many of you were asking for once the 21-day challenge ended. It’s very exciting so stay tuned. We’ll tell you all about it on Tuesday.

Have a Happy Easter!

Love,
