Success Spotlight ~ Michele W.

Over the years I have lost weight many times with another well-known weight loss program and even became a lifetime member. I also became an employee and led weekly meetings for a time in the hopes that it would make me more accountable to maintain my weight loss. Unfortunately, with the focus being on losing weight for myself, I would eventually get tired of eating healthy and exercising because “I needed to do it”, and always gained the weight back, plus another 10 pounds or more. I was praying daily for forgiveness for my poor eating habits and the Lord reminded me that true repentance means actually turning from your sin. So I began looking for a Christian-based weight loss program and He led me to Weight Loss, God’s Way.

When I began the program, I weighed 207 pounds, which for my height, or lack thereof, is only 12 pounds shy of the morbidly obese category. I have successfully released an average of 1.5 lbs each week and now weigh 174. Although I am still in the obese category, I am only 10 pounds away from the overweight category. I have gone from a size 20 jeans to a size 14 and feel much better. I no longer have acid reflux, can walk a mile without being out of breath, and can bend over to tie my shoes.

When I first started WLGW, I thought I was too busy to spend an hour on the ‘Seek Him Saturday’ calls but have recently started listening to them while taking my daily walk and participated in my first one this past Saturday. Wow, what a learning opportunity! I would advise all my sisters to participate in the SHS calls, or if unable to do so, at least listen to the recordings. You will be amazed at the things God will show you. For instance, although I am familiar with Hebrews 6:15 and even heard it discussed on the 6:00 a.m. call when I listened to the 10:00 a.m. call, that verse became more personal to me. I realized that when I am being tempted to eat that piece of chocolate cake, it in no way compares to Jesus’ temptation to turn stones to bread after fasting for 40 days!

Thanks to WLGW, my relationship with Jesus has grown in ways I never imagined. I would never have thought that I would get up an hour early just to have time to pray and do Bible study, or that I would be working on multiple Bible studies at the same time! I have even started keeping a prayer journal which is totally new for me. I am also trying to memorize scripture, which I haven’t done since I was a child, to be able to bring it to mind when facing the temptation to eat unhealthy food or skip my exercise routine.

And did I mention, about a month ago I felt God telling me I needed to quit smoking? At first I thought, “If I try to quit, I will gain back all the weight I lost.” But I continued to hear Him say, “I will be with you and will help you”. I quit cold turkey—no medication, gum, or other assistance other than the strength I received from our Lord. And guess what?! He kept His promise as He always does and not only have I not gained any weight, I have actually released almost 7 pounds in the 5 weeks since my last cigarette. If God can give me the strength to do this, I have no doubt that He can, and will, lead you to be successful in this program.
